                      About Guru Gampopa

Gampopa also known as Dakpo Lharje (“the Doctor from Dakpo”), was a great Tibetan Buddhist master and one of the most important figures in the Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. He was a principal disciple of the great yogi Milarepa and the founder of the Dakpo Kagyu tradition.

Gampopa was originally a physician and monk trained in the Kadampa tradition before meeting Milarepa. After receiving teachings and attaining realization under Milarepa’s guidance, he combined the Kadampa’s monastic discipline and study with Milarepa’s yogic meditation practices, creating a unique synthesis that became the foundation of the Kagyu school’s monastic system.
